Password Settings

Both a username and password are required to access BPOS.  Each user can have their own username and password, or multiple users can use the same username and password, provided the shared username and password is assigned to a specific store location.  A username and password with permission set for corporate access [aka: "inter-store" access] should *never* be shared.

More than 100 individual permissions can be set for each user.  HITS HELP Doc# 77 provides a description of each setting implemented.

The Password Permissions (aka: switches) option is under Administration --> Store --> Password Switches.  Only users with password permission P99=! can access this option.

Owners and Administrators:  You cannot add or delete password records or change passwords using the Password Switches routine as its purpose is only to allow edits to permissions.  New usernames and passwords as well as the editing of passwords is controlled via a separate set of programs made known only to the store owner or his/her designated HITS BPOS System Administrator.

The system comes with one System Administrator already set up in the password file.  Depending on the size of your business you can allow everyone to use that same user and password or set up individual usernames and passwords for each employee, which is our recommendation.

For larger organizations, we recommend that you set up "base" usernames such as "Sales", "Bookkeeping", etc. which can be used as "templates" when creating new user accounts.

Important Note:  HITS does not store the actual password for each user.  Rather, when a password is created, HITS encrypts the password and stores encrypted code.  When a user logs in and enters their actual password, HITS decodes the stored encrypted password and compares the result to the password the user enters.  This method makes your system much more secure.

As such, once a password is added for a user, no one, including the Technical Support Team at A&A, can determine what the actual password is, because it is encrypted and only the HITS program can decode the encryption during login.

Therefore, if you or one of your employees forgets their password, a new password must be created by someone with permission to do so.  Generally, the Technical Support Team assists with creating new passwords.
