System Configuration

Between the legacy version of HITS (MS & MS99) and the latest version, HITS BPOS, there are more than 500 customizable configuration options and settings, making HITS one of the most flexible, most highly configurable point-of-sale / billing systems available.

By default, the software has already been configured to accommodate a typical retail tire, auto service, and lube operation, so if you are retailer, you many only need to change a few settings to suit your particular needs.

(Attention wholesalers:  HITS works for both retail and wholesale operations, but is configured by default for retail due to the higher volume of retail operations in the market. If you are a wholesaler, our technical support and on-boarding team will work with you to configuration certain defaults to be more aligned with wholesale, including operational processes that can minimize key clicks for the typical wholesale invoice.)

There are two areas of the software where corporate and store configurations can be set, provided the user has password permission.

The primary area, which is in HITS BPOS, is under Administration & Utilities --> Store --> View/Edit Default Settings.  In this area you can configure or edit more than 350 different settings to tailor HITS BPOS to your operation.

Of the more than 35 categories of the left menu bar, about half (~175) of the more than 350 configuration settings in HITS BPOS relate to 7 core categories as follows...

  1. Accounting Receivable Management [17]
  2. Appointment & Bay Management [20]
  3. Customer management (adding, editing, lookup, processing on invoices) [28]
  4. Communications [15]
  5. History Searching / Lookups - Customer & Vehicle [11]
  6. Invoicing [40]
  7. ServiceCAT / VSOC [44]

When configuring your system for the first time, you should plan to spend some time reviewing all the categories and configuration options available as part of your on-boarding process, but you should pay particular attention to the 7 cores categories listed above.

Tweaking configuration settings to suit your particular needs will help further ensure operational success.

Whether you have one store or 99, when making changes using the View/Edit Default Settings, make your changes with the "Corporate" option selected under "Select Store/Corporate" first.  This will cause your settings to be applied to all stores without further edits. Think of the Corporate selection as a "global" setting capability.  Then, make any store specific settings as needed.

The second area of the software where additional configuration settings can be edited is in the legacy area, (HITS MS & MS99).  Generally, changes in this area are made during your initial on-boarding and with assistance from our technical support team.  (We are in the process of migrating legacy settings to the HITS BPOS interface, so fewer and fewer settings under legacy are being used, hence the importance of working with our technical support team when considering changes under the legacy configuration area.)

You can access legacy configuration settings via the HITS BPOS interface under...

Administration & Utilities -->

  1. Store --> Store System
  2. Corporate --> Corporate System

Remember, do not attempt to make any changes in the legacy area without guidance from our technical support or on-boarding team.

There are two HITS HELP documents related to the legacy area that you might might useful in understanding some of the additional configuration capabilities within HITS.  These documents are Legacy Corporate System and Legacy Store System.
